MACON, Ga. - Wesleyan College hockey made history Sunday afternoon, taking the ice for the first game in program history and delivering a commanding 12-0 victory over Georgia Southern at the Macon Coliseum.
The Wolves wasted little time establishing control, scoring seven goals in the opening period. Wesleyan added another goal in the second before closing out the historic afternoon with four more in the third.
Keeleigh Bott led the Wesleyan attack with four goals and two assists, including the first goal in program history.
Tara Herne recorded a goal and three assists, while Jordan Clark and
Skylar Penfold each scored twice.
Ava Hartman also added two goals, and
Oriana Weidman found the back of the net once.
Isabella Pappalardo contributed an assist.
Wesleyan controlled the pace throughout the contest, finishing with a 68-2 advantage in shots. The Wolves fired 27 shots on goal in the opening period and held Georgia Southern without a shot through the first 40 minutes of play.
Katelyn Silbernagel earned the victory in goal, stopping both shots she faced to record a shutout in Wesleyan's first-ever game.
The victory gives Wesleyan College hockey a memorable start to its inaugural season and marks the first win and first shutout in program history.
The Wolves will be back on the ice Friday Oct 2nd at 8:00pm to open CHS play against UGA.
