Macon, Ga. — Wesleyan College Athletics is proud to announce the addition of Bubby Mitchell as Assistant Coach for the Women's Wrestling program. Mitchell brings more than 20 years of coaching experience and a proven track record of developing athletes at the highest levels of competition.
A pioneer in combat sports in Middle Georgia, Mitchell founded Rush Mixed Martial Arts in 2007 — the region's first dedicated MMA academy. Under his leadership, the program has grown into a thriving training environment serving more than 380 members while producing both amateur and professional athletes.
Mitchell's coaching résumé spans over two decades at the high school level, where he has spent more than 20 seasons developing wrestlers and guiding multiple state and national champions. He currently contributes to the growth of the sport through his work with Team Georgia Women's Freestyle Wrestling, further strengthening his impact on women's wrestling in the region.
On the international stage, Mitchell served as Head Coach of the UMMAF U.S. National Team from 2017–2018, leading athletes in global competition in Manama, Bahrain. His contributions to the sport have been widely recognized, including his induction into the Georgia MMA Hall of Fame in 2013.
Mitchell holds USA Wrestling National Coaches Accreditation Program (NCAP) Copper, Bronze, and Teal certifications, reflecting his commitment to continued education and excellence in coaching.
"We are excited to welcome Bubby to Wesleyan," said Head Coach Ruben Chavez. "His experience, passion, and dedication to athlete development make him an outstanding addition to our program and our campus community."
Known for his emphasis on technical excellence, mental toughness, accountability, and character development, Mitchell is committed to building a strong culture within Wesleyan's Women's Wrestling program.
"At Wesleyan, I'm excited to help create a disciplined and competitive environment where women can thrive," Mitchell said. "Our goal is to empower student-athletes to become confident leaders — not just on the mat, but in every aspect of their lives."
Mitchell's addition signals continued momentum for Wesleyan Women's Wrestling as the program builds toward sustained success both regionally and nationally.
