Macon, GA- The Wolves traveled down I75 to the sunshine state for a match-up with the Tigers of Trinity College of Florida taking the match in 5 sets for their first W of the 2025 season. Pippa Tilley had a day for the record books as she finished with 3 huge aces, 19 digs, and 30 assists to put her over the 500 mark on her Wesleyan career.
Wesleyan surged ahead after a slow start in the opening set, overcoming an early 3-0 deficit against TCF. A crucial turning point occurred when the Wolves went on a 6-0 run, capped by back-to-back blocks from Junior hitter Mayah Misi, giving them a 13-10 lead and forcing TCF to call a timeout with the score now 12-10 in favor of the Wolves. After the timeout, the Wolves extended their lead with a series of successful plays from Freshmen Libero Chole Hinton and Outside Hitter Amaya Harris holding an18-19 advantage. Despite a late rally from the Wolves, which included three consecutive points to narrow the gap to 24-19, TCF secured the first set 25-21.
The Wolves secured a decisive victory in the second set against the Tigers , winning 25-23. After an even start, Wolves broke a 3-3 tie with a run of five consecutive points, highlighted by kills from Leah Baggett and Ashlyn Adams prompting TCF to call a timeout at 7-3. The momentum continued in Wesleyan favor, as they contributed four assists in a span that expanded their lead to 13-4. Despite a late surge by the Tigers, including a service ace that brought the score to 24-15, Wesleyan closed the set with a kill securing the set to even the match at 1-1.
The Tigers opened the third set with a strong performance, quickly building momentum through a series of errors from the Wolves and effective kills. At 5-1 forced a timeout from Wesleyan with a 9-3 lead following a decisive block by Tigers. The Wolves briefly responded with kills by Freshmen
Peyton Dorow and
Amaya Harris, but were unable to catch the Tigers who took the set 25-20 and a 2-1 lead in the match.
With their backs against the wall the Wolves jumped out to a 7-2 advantage in the 4th set and never looked back. At one point the Tigers were able to cut the deficit to 11-10 before the wolves extended the lead to a 17-14 advantage with Tilley posting a kill. The Tigers wouldn't go quietly cutting the lead from 23-18 to 24-22 before Tilley put the set away with another kill to even the match at two sets a piece.
The decisive 5th set was a back and forth affair as it was even through 4 points with TCF taking a 3 point lead late at 13-10. The Wolves fought back to take a 14-11 lead before Pippa Tilley finished off her exceptional night with an ace to seal the 3-2 victory for the Wolves. The Wolves head to Brewton Parker college for their next match up on 9/9 before returning home to face the Chargers of Georgia Highlands on Saturday 9/13.
