Macon, GA- Since 2003 Wesleyan College has competed athletically within NCAA Division III. The college has recently announced that starting in Fall of 2026 the Wolves Athletics programs will be competing in the Southern States Athletic Conference of the NAIA. The move coincides with the addition of multiple new varsity athletic teams including the addition of Flag Football.
Former Head Soccer Coach and current Director of Athletics Seth Berkebile will be serving as the first coach for this new program. Berkebile has years of experience coaching football at both the junior high and high school level, and had the opportunity to coach club level flag football during his days at Georgia Southern University. With years of experience recruiting at Wesleyan College and his background in football, Berkebile is the perfect candidate to launch this new program.
"With the growth of athletics at Wesleyan and the move to NAIA, this is an exciting time to be a student athlete at our college," said Berkebile. "I am thrilled to be in a position to help bring this emerging sport to Wesleyan and offer more young women the opportunity to accomplish their goal of playing flag football at the collegiate level."
The Wolves Flag Football team has opened recruitment for the inaugural 2026 class and has athletic scholarship available. The team will be hosting an ID camp on campus January 17th and will be starting competition in the Southern States Athletic Conference in Spring of 2027.
Registration for the ID Camp can be found here.
