Clermont, FL - Valerie Clower pitched her second consecutive one-hitter on Monday morning to lead Wesleyan College to a five inning shut out win over Immaculata University. The Wolves made quick work of the Mighty Macs, winning 8-0.
Clower faced 18 batters in five innings, striking out five and walking two, to move her overall record from the circle to 2-3.
The Wolves continued to hit the ball well against Immaculata, piling on nine hits. Victoria Clower and Jema Bravo got Wesleyan on track early with back to back doubles that each drove in first inning runs. After a quite second and third inning, the Wolves took advantage of two Immaculata errors, scoring five runs that would ultimately shorten the game and seal the win.
Bravo led the Wesleyan offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, driving in three runs while scoring one herself. Victoria Clower was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Mellissa Webb went 2-for3 with two RBI.
In the second game of the day, Wesleyan fell to Rose Hulman by a score of 6-3. The game was tied at 3-3 headed into the bottom of the fifth, but Wesleyan's offense was stifled for the remainder of the game. Rose Hulman held the Wolves to only four hits.
Wesleyan will face University of Mount Union at 9:00am Tuesday morning and round out the tournament with a 1:00pm contest against Misericordia University.
