Macon, GA - In their final home games of the season, a short-handed Wesleyan softball team dropped two games to Tennessee Temple University by scores of 13-0 and 12-1.
Injuries to pitcher Sara McMahon and outfielder Christina Mayfield forced the Pioneers to dial in help from reserve players Kellie Bacon and Rebecca Navarrre, who both made several great plays in the outfield throughout the afternoon. In addition to relying on the help of reserve players, the Pioneers have learned how to be flexible defensively as most players have had to play several different positions over the course of the last couple of weeks. Colleen DeGraff was called upon to pitch both games against the Crusaders, while Abby Stephens caught, Anna Jones shifted to short stop, Hannah Finch moved to third base and McKenzie Bragg played first base.
Despite their struggles on offense, the Pioneers still managed four hits (Colleen DeGraff 2, Hannah Finch, Abby Stephens) and scored a run off a DeGraff single in the fifth inning of game two.
Wesleyan wraps up its regular season play on Sunday, April 21, when they travel to Winston-Salem, NC to take on GSAC foe Salem College. The Pioneers will return to Salem the following weekend for the conference championship, which begins on Friday, April 26.
