Wolves Offense Erupts In 5-0 Victory

Macon, GA-  Wesleyan soccer welcomed the Tigers of Andrew to our temporary home at Stratford Academy Tuesday the 15th of September and earned their first win of the season 5-0 in impressive fashion. The Wolves were in control from the opening kick maintaining possession of the ball at a high clip. They opened the scoring in the 25th minute when a corner kick struck by Junior Stephanie Cogan found Sophomore Abby Gleaton in the box who buried it in the back corner of the net. Shortly after play resumed a Tigers penalty gave the Wolves an opportunity to extend the lead and Senior Nelly Vivaldo did just that beating the keeper on the PK making the score 2-0 Wolves where it would remain into the half.

The Wolves excellent defense continued in the 2nd half as Freshman keeper Brooke Hankinson put together her first career shutout making 6 saves to keep the Tigers off the board. In the 52nd minute the pair of Cogan and Gleaton combined for another goal, this time with Gleaton finding Cogan on a run who was able to get one through the keeper and put the Wolves up 3. An own goal by the Tigers moved the Wolves lead to 4 in the 60th minute and Junior Fernanda Perez put the game away in the 69th minute slicing through the defense and beating the keeper to put the Wolves up 5 where the score would remain. The Wolves will look to carry this momentum north as they travel to Atlanta to take on Agnes Scott in their conference opener at 5pm on Wednesday September 17th.
