Macon, GA- Wesleyan College is proud to announce the appointment of Elise Higgins as the new head coach for its Competitive Cheer program. Higgins brings more than two decades of experience as both an athlete and coach, beginning her cheer journey at age six with United Cheerleading in Columbus, Georgia, where she earned numerous national titles, including multiple Cheersport and UCA championships. Her career continued with standout competitive seasons at Columbus High School, highlighted by regional championships and a top-three finish at the GHSA State Championship, followed by three years as a versatile and high-achieving member of Columbus State University's Division II large co-ed team. As a coach, Higgins helped lead Columbus High School to consistent top-six state finishes, including a GHSA State Runner-Up title.

A Columbus resident for the past 26 years, Higgins is a graduate of Columbus High School, Columbus State University, and the University of West Georgia. She is currently pursuing a second master's degree in teaching with a concentration in physical education. Deeply rooted in service, mentorship, and advocacy, she also holds the title of Miss Northeast Georgia 2026 and competes in the Miss America Opportunity, where she champions her initiative, Let's Talk About It: The Women Behind the Sport, promoting mental health resources and representation for female athletes. With strong family ties, a background shaped by resilience, and years of leadership both on and off the mat, Higgins brings a holistic athlete-centered approach to the Wesleyan College Competitive Cheer program.

"I'm here at Wesleyan College because I truly believe in what this program can become and in the potential of every athlete who walks through our doors," Higgins said. "My goal is to create an environment where athletes feel comfortable, included, confident, and excited to show up every day. I want this to be a program where the athletes know their well-being matters just as much as their performance." Higgins continued, "We're dreaming big, and I believe we have everything necessary to grow into a national championship program. I'm honored to be part of this journey, and I'm excited for everything we're about to build together."
