LaGrange, GA - In their season finale, the Wesleyan College softball team came up just short in a 4-3 loss to LaGrange College. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to weather.
Notables:
- Trailing 3-1 in the seventh inning, Savanna Boyette's single down the right field line scored Alana Walker and McKenzi Shelpman to tie the game before the Panthers pushed the game winner across in the bottom of the inning.
- Senior Nicole Wilson and freshman Savanna Boyette combined for four of Wesleyan's seven hits on offense.
- Sophomore Alyssa Flowers hit her second career home run and first of the 2017 season in the second inning.
Quotable:
Wesleyan head softball coach Dickey Hightower remarked, ""Today, we played a good game highlighted by Alyssa Flowers' home run. We tried to pull off another comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie up the game, but we came up just short allowing LaGrange the go ahead run in the bottom of the inning. I'm proud of this team. We played the last half of the season as a team, and it was shown today in our total team effort. Our record this year does not define this team, and I am sure they are looking forward to next year already. We are really going to miss the leadership of our seniors, Nicole Wilson and Claire Crawford, next season.""
