Winston-Salem, NC - In an effort to beat the snow, Wesleyan moved up their doubleheader against Salem College to Saturday evening, but the Spirits had hot bats on a cold night and took two from the Wolves. The Spirits won 5-1 and 9-1.
Notables:
- In Game 1, Wesleyan trailed 2-1 until the sixth inning, when Salem's J. Vitarelli hit a three-run home run to seal the game for the Spirits. Wesleyan managed eight hits in the game but struggled to push runs across the plate over the seven innings.
- Junior Tiffani Linville led the Wesleyan offense with a 4-for-7 performance at the plate. She drove in two runs and recorded a double.
Quotable:
""We played well today and were able to pick up fourteen hits over both games. We hit the ball hard and never quit, but Salem's bats were hot and a couple of untimely errors ultimately hurt us. As a whole, the entire team played hard and I'm proud of their effort, especially from those that were asked to play different positions and those that have not gotten a lot of playing time yet this season,"" stated head coach Dickey Hightower.
