Wolves Top LaGrange for First Win of Season

Macon, GA - Mellissa Webb pitched a complete game shutout to guide Wesleyan's softball team to its first win of the season over LaGrange College, 8-0. The Panthers took the second game of the doubleheader with an 11-5 win.

NOTABLES:

  • In Game 1, eight of nine Wesleyan batters recorded a hit and seven scored a run.
  • Senior pitcher Mellissa Webb brought her A game, pitching a five inning shutout, striking out seven and allowing only three hits.
  • The top four batters in the Wolves lineup (Bela Bravo, Tiffani Linville, Jema Bravo, and Victoria Clower) combined went 6-for-10 at the plate with five runs scored and two RBI.
  • In Game 2, seven of nine Wesleyan batters recorded hits with Nicole Wilson and Ashley Bush each picking up two.
  • Down 7-2 in the 5th inning, Wesleyan mounted a comeback, scoring three runs to get to within two, before LaGrange opened it up in the 7th inning.

""We finally played the way I knew this team was capable of playing, and I'm so proud of our effort today,"" remarked Wesleyan head coach Dickey Hightower. ""In the first game, we played great defensively with no errors, we hit the ball hard, and Mellissa pitched an excellent game. Even though we came up short in the second game, we still played with great intensity and found a way to score runs. I'm glad to see it all come together for us today, and I expect us to continue to play like this as the season moves forward.""
