Winston-Salem, NC - Both the softball and tennis teams from Wesleyan College closed out their seasons this weekend at the Great South Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Salem College.
After an impressive offensive performance in yesterday's win against Trinity Washington, the Pioneers fell to Salem College in today's elimination game by a score of 9-1. Salem pitcher Kristi Morton limited the Pioneer offense to just two hits in today's match-up. Freshman Sara McMahon and senior Aisha Coles both singled in the loss.
Wesleyan's tennis team fell one point short of advancing to the semifinals of their GSAC Championships when they lost 4-5 to Salem College on Friday afternoon. The Spirits swept the double points, but Wesleyan rallied in singles play as #2 Lauren Mitchell, #3 Joanna Esposita, #4 Anastasia Kozhakova, and #5 Fangjie Wu each earned points in their singles matches. Despite their loss, the Pioneers close out the 2013 campaign having had their most successful season in more than a decade.
