Wednesday, May 10, 2017

Macon, GA - The Wesleyan College Department of Athletics has announced Chanel Davis as its next Head Volleyball Coach. Davis is a graduate of the University of West Alabama, where she played two years for the Tigers after beginning her collegiate playing career at Kennesaw State University.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Wesleyan family," remarked Davis. "I am eager to begin building a long-lived, substantial culture at Wesleyan in the volleyball program. I believe that there is great potential within the institution and in the community and I feel very privileged to become a part of it. It is truly a blessing to have this opportunity to continue to do something I love and to be a positive influence for young women. I cannot wait to see the development of our program in the upcoming years. The goal is to continue to grow with my players as we all work together to improve by instilling hard work while creating strong-minded, goal oriented, and dedicated student-athletes."

Davis joins the Wesleyan College staff after having served as both an assistant and interim head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College last season. Prior to that, she spent a year on the coaching staff for the Cape Fear Volleyball Club in her hometown of Wilmington, NC, and three and a half years coaching for Club Crimson Volleyball in Tuscaloosa, AL.

"Following an international search with a great pool of highly qualified coaches, Chanel Davis stood out as the strong leader we need to build our volleyball program," remarked Wesleyan Associate Athletic Director Nicky DiMarzio. "She has a tremendous collegiate playing background, has worked the club circuit, and has experience as both an assistant and head coach.  Chanel stressed the importance of accountability, expectations, and trust that will be the pillars of her coaching, recruiting, and mentoring philosophies.  We are thrilled to have a competitive, positive role model for our young program and are confident in her ability to build for the future.  Chanel will be a great addition to the Wesleyan family and we are excited for her arrival."

In her two seasons of play at West Alabama, Davis ruled the court from the middle blocker position, where she tallied an amazing 558 kills and 175 blocks. For her efforts, she was named to the Gulf South Conference Second Team as a junior and then became an All Conference First Team selection as a senior.
